World Food Day: feeding is also caring

Agroindustrias González, Amazon

World Food Day, every October 16, is an opportunity to look at everything that lies behind the food we eat: the people who work in each process, the animals and the territory.

Every food product that reaches the table has a story behind it. There are people, animals, territory, work, knowledge and decisions that are part of that journey. For Agroindustrias González, producing food means taking on the responsibility of caring for each of these elements.

On World Food Day, observed every October 16, reflecting on food goes beyond what we put on our plate. It also invites us to think about how food is produced, where it comes from and what impact it has on people, animals and the environment.

For Agroindustrias González, that vision is part of its very mission: “To feed your family through human, animal and environmental wellbeing.”

The history of Agroindustrias González is tied to the Ecuadorian Amazon. From its beginnings, the company found in this territory a space to develop productive activities and produce food, facing the particular challenges of producing in a region of enormous natural wealth.

Working in the Amazon means recognizing the value of its biodiversity and the need to carry out productive activities responsibly. For that reason, environmental wellbeing is part of a vision in which production and care for the environment move forward hand in hand.

Animal welfare also nourishes

Producing food of animal origin carries a responsibility that begins long before that food reaches the consumer.

Animal welfare covers fundamental aspects such as feeding, housing, health and the possibility of expressing the behaviors natural to each species. At Agroindustrias González, these principles are part of the work carried out at the Borja farm, in Napo, which holds Welfair certification. This approach helps us understand that the quality of food is related to the conditions in which the animals are raised and to the practices applied throughout the production chain.

Human wellbeing is at the center

Behind every food product there are people. Producers, technicians, plant workers, administrative staff, sales teams and many other people take part in a process that begins in production and ends at families’ tables. For that reason, talking about food also means talking about those who make it possible for food to reach consumers. Training, occupational health and safety, people’s development and a culture based on respect are part of the human wellbeing that Agroindustrias González seeks to build into its activity.

Innovating to produce better

The challenge of feeding a growing population also demands finding new ways to produce.

At Agroindustrias González, innovation is linked to the search for solutions that make processes more efficient, make better use of resources and respond to consumers’ needs.

Pig production, fish farming and the various initiatives developed by the company are part of the same purpose: moving toward food production that brings together knowledge, technology and responsibility.

World Food Day is an opportunity to look at everything that lies behind the food we eat.

For Agroindustrias González, feeding a family means thinking about the people who work in each process, the animals that are part of production and the territory that makes it possible to obtain resources.

Human wellbeing. Animal welfare. Environmental wellbeing.

Three dimensions that are part of the same vision and that give meaning to a mission that begins with a simple but deeply important word: feed.

Because when we talk about food, we also talk about care, responsibility and the future.
